Cost of living.... is
a mixture of very cheap and expensive..(all
in US $$)
Here are some examples of the very cheap. A bottle of rum $4-$5, Bacardi $8, wine $3- $6 and excellent wine too. Produce, fruit and veggies too cheap to even talk about and also fresh, fresh, fresh. Seafood…lobster $2.50 each….shrimp all you could possibly eat for$5.00…jumbo of course. For the sushi lovers could you imagine buying enough yellowtail tuna for an absolute feast for the huge price of $3.00? Incredible eh (Canadian saying). For you smokers a carton of cigarettes for $13.00. Now beef, I always thought I would really miss Alberta beef and beef for me would be a thing of the past…WRONG… the meat here is delicious and also very inexpensive, a huge T-bone costs about $4.00. New York is about the same price or less. You do not need to buy filet here as the other meats are so delicious but filet is available also at the same low prices. What it costs here for good food is pathetically cheap.
Speaking of food - Cindy has made up a menu for our guests. If you are planning on a visit read it over and decide on your preferences. This way you won't have to worry about having sushi for dinner if you're in the group that can't believe people actually eat raw fish.
Now not all things are cheap, we paid $440.00 this month for our electric power and we pay $100.00 per month for phone and internet. Also most dry goods are pretty pricey. We are told it's because of the transportation costs - everything has to come from either the mainland or the States. We are hoping the new stores will add some competition and bring prices down.
